🇫🇷 My AI Hackathon Journey
I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in France. Previously, I graduated from the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC) with a degree in Electronics and Automation.
Before my thesis defense, I worked for one year as a Junior Developer, mainly focusing on integrating AI and Machine Learning applications into the company’s core systems — including the database and APIs.
After arriving in France, I participated in two AI Hackathons in Paris with my teammates. Both events provided valuable experience in teamwork, rapid development, and real-world AI system integration.
🧠 The Project: AI Agent System
In both competitions, our team developed an AI Agent System that connects with a backend core system. We used Python for backend and LLM development, and Next.js for the frontend dashboard.
Tech Stack
- 🐍 FastAPI
- 🔗 LangChain
- ⚡ Next.js with Shadcn UI
- 🧩 Google ADK (AI Developer Kit) — for voice, vision, and multimodal interaction
The agent, named Voyago, was designed to assist users in planning and managing their travels efficiently.
💡 Concept
The idea originated from my first experience in France, where navigating the local transportation system was challenging compared to my home country, Cambodia. Voyago aims to serve as an AI-powered travel assistant that helps users plan trips, find accommodations, and explore destinations with contextual recommendations.
Example: if a user plans to visit Switzerland during the Christmas holidays, the agent can suggest suitable accommodation options, propose nearby activities, and assist through a voice-based interactive interface using Google ADK. It can also use camera input to provide visual guidance at the destination.
🏗️ My Role
I was mainly responsible for backend development, including database design, API creation, and system integration. This involved building endpoints that allowed the agent to retrieve and manage data effectively, supporting real-time user interactions.
🏁 Results & Takeaways
Although the project did not win the second competition, it was a strong learning experience — from designing complex systems under time constraints to collaborating with developers in an international environment.
